Tips for seasonal water chiller system shutdown in winter | Hstarschiller.com

Introduction: Winter is coming, and the ambient temperature is about to drop below zero. This will cause great damage to the chillers, water pumps, cooling towers, terminals and other equipment. In order to ensure that chillers work normally during winter, the chiller has to survive in the low temperature environment, because it will cause a great loss to users if the unit is not maintained with proper seasonal shutdown.

First of all, when those chillers are not going to turn on during winter for seasonal shutdown, water among chillers, pipes, pumps, cooling towers and terminals must be drained out clean in advance when the ambient temperature is below zero.

How are we going to do for the water chiller HVAC system shutdown in winter ?

Here are the tips below for seasonal water chiller system shutdown in winter how to drain out the water from HVAC system.

1. Shell and Tube Condenser: Open the end cap of the water pipe.  After opening, pay attention to the end cover and screws. Install the end cover and screws before starting the next year. (Remember: Do not do this for evaporator drainage!!!)

Industrial Falling Film Shell And Tube Evaporator

2. Shell and Tube Evaporator: You can open the drain valve under the evaporator to drain the water. It is best to keep the drain valve normally open in winter, and turn off the water supply before turning on at the next year.

3. Pipes and pumps: Drain water at the lowest point of pipes and pumps.

Square Cooling Tower Draining Position

4.Square type Cooling tower: Open the drain valve at the lowest part of the cooling tower  water tray to drain the chassis water. It is best to be in the normally open state during different periods.

5.End: There is a drain valve at the lowest end of the coil, and the drain valve is also opened. Leave the drain valve open during winter.

What methods should we take to avoid damages to chillers?

During the day or night period of non-use, the pump must be kept running, and the water must be drained if it is not used for a long time. In case of severe weather (the temperature is lower than -10℃), it is the best to shut down and drain the water, or add antifreeze material into to the water.

Where are water-cooled chillers used? What is a chiller used for?

Water-cooled chiller   is a cooling water device that can provide constant temperature, constant current and constant pressure. A chiller is a machine that achieves refrigeration through vapor compression or absorption cycles. These liquids can flow through heat exchangers to cool the air or equipment. The industrial chiller can always output ice water with a lower temperature than the ambient temperature. It can be used wherever cooling is required, either direct cooling or indirect heat exchange. The main components of a water-cooled chiller are compressor, condenser, evaporator, water pump, and water tank. Chillers have a wide range of applications. The chiller can be used to cool the injection mold, improve the quality of plastic products, cool the vacuum coating, control the temperature of the vacuum coating machine, cool the food industry, fast cooling processing, chemical industry, effectively control the temperature of chemicals, cooling buildings, concrete fast Cool...

Ways and solutions of noise produced by chillers - www.oumalchiller.com

It is inevitable that the chiller will produce sound when it is working. For example, when the fan rotates, the fan blades rub against the air, it will produce sound. Normal sound is allowed. However, even the sophisticated refrigeration equipment will appear after a long period of use. Fault. Then, the editor of   Oumal Chiller   will take you to understand the causes and solutions of the noise produced by the chiller. First, find the reason from the parts that are easy to check and observe: 1. Are the anchor screws loose? The chiller is fixed on the ground. After running for a long time, the anchor bolts will be loose, and the chiller will be unstable, which will cause noise. This situation can be solved by replacing the anchor bolts, and vibration reduction can also be installed if conditions permit. The purpose is to make the chiller firmly fixed on the ground. 2. Whether the connecting pipeline is firm There are large and small pipes on the chiller, connecting the ...

How is the Refrigeration Industry Leading the Green Development with R404A

As global environmental concerns continue to rise, the refrigeration industry is undergoing a significant transformation. Water-cooled low-temperature units exported overseas are now increasingly adopting the eco-friendly refrigerant R404A, leading the way in the industry's green development. Here's a deeper look into this trend. Why Is R404A Becoming the Preferred Refrigerant for  Water-Cooled Low-Temperature Units ? R404A is a blend of refrigerants that stands out due to its environmentally friendly properties. It is free from Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) and has a relatively low Global Warming Potential (GWP), making it an ideal substitute for traditional refrigerants. This balance between high-performance cooling and environmental friendliness has made R404A especially popular in regions with strict environmental regulations, such as Europe and North America. Water-cooled low-temperature units exported to these areas are now commonly equipped with R404A to meet local ...
